As a mainly foliage garden we never really have any moment wherein the garden has exuberant floriferous displays. And when I took photos the other days I wasn't surprised at all that our floral offerings this month are rather meagre. But upon walking around this afternoon I spotted that we actually have a lot more in flower than I previously gave the garden credit for!
Alas I didn't have the time to take more pictures, the chance may have to wait till the coming weekend. With today being very sunny and the warmest day of the year so far the priority till it started getting dark was to water the garden.
But better have a few to present than none!

Mark :-)
Spring is coming along nicely there. The Beschorneria septrionalis is a striking plant and bloom. Missed getting one at a recent plant sale, still looking.
ReplyDeleteSuch a reliable and tough plant it is too Shirley, the plain green that is :)
DeleteVery exotic! Loving the Stachyurus. And Asarum, is that hardy?
ReplyDeleteIt is Jessica and it'll do really well in your garden :)
DeleteGreat blooms! I´m liking more and more Stachyurus :)
ReplyDeleteI have its exact id Lisa, just need to dig out the label from the label bin :)
DeleteA nice selection Mark..I'm very taken with the Stachyurus , and have had to look it up..Happy Bloomday from the left coast !
ReplyDeleteAnd to you too Kathy :)
DeleteI'd never seen Stacyurus prior to a month ago but now I think it's mounting a campaign to suck me in despite its water needs! I did plant Helleborus 'Anna's Red" last month - I couldn't resist (and can only hope it'll survive our new water restrictions). Happy GBBD!
ReplyDeleteAnna's red is getting so many rave reviews here Kris, and I'm starting to see myself why :)
DeleteI forgot about my Asarum caudatum! Although it was mostly buried under added soil last summer, so only the portion right at the base of the trunk of the Japanese maple it grows around is blooming. Not exactly accessible for pictures. The rest of it is growing up through the soil surprisingly. I thought it might smother it, but luckily not! I just love this plant.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it's doing fine Evan, such a stalwart isn't it? :)
DeleteFun to see the blooms in your garden! Having to water already?
ReplyDeleteOh yes Loree, it seems that when its dry here it's dry :)
DeleteHappy GBBD! I've never peeked under my Asarum caudatum to see the flowers, but I know it must, I get loads of seedlings.I just bought a Stachyurus a couple of weeks ago, already in bloom. Can't wait to get it in the ground, if I can just figure out where.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you'll get your answer soon Alison, there's always space somewhere :)
DeleteI'm interested to see what the Beschorneria septentrionalis bloom looks like when open. Happy bloom day :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! Hopefully it will offset soon as the mother plant is monocarpic, yikes!
DeleteHappy GBBD gentlemen! Your Staphylea holocarpa 'Rosea' is especially charming right now!
ReplyDeleteIt is Peter, and it has nice foliage too :)
DeleteHello Mark and Gaz,
ReplyDeleteWell, your tropical blooms are braving an appearance. Such promise of exciting things to come. And, it is so wonderful to have interesting foliage all year round, as you do, flowers are so fleeting.
We love the white flowers of the Stachyurus. Elegant and graceful, they really do play a starring role in the early spring garden.
Thank you Jane and Lance! It seems the Stachyurus is proving popular, must find out it's exact ID, it's there somewhere....:)
DeleteHi Mark, so you still have some colorful flowers too! The morphology of that last one is so unique, i wonder how it looks when those long threads are hanging down.
ReplyDeleteThey're quite unique looking blooms Andrea :)
DeleteI just saw Hellebore 'Anna's Red' on another blog and remarked on its beauty. Definitely on my wish list! The asarum has the weird sort of bloom I like; it would like finding an unexpected treasure.
ReplyDeleteAnna's Red continues to receive very positive reviews here Debs :)
