It rained all day here today, and quite heavy too for most of it which effectively ruled out spending time out in the open. Still there were plenty enough to do that would be under cover so such activities were the highlight of our day.
Gaz was sorting out the inside of the jungle hut...
Whilst I tackled the greenhouse where our succulents live (more about this later)...
We're now busy sorting out the garden in anticipation of the rest of the growing season, getting it ready for a good display. Things are a bit all over the place at the moment as we figure out where things will go especially the potted plants, and as we tidy up certain areas.
Some of the potted plants were placed at random places for now but going up and down the garden today as it drizzled, I couldn't help but notice how plants took on a glow that only a rainy day can provide...
Not bad at all despite the randomness in some parts. Our 'jungle' almost looked like a rainforest.
Almost...with an awareness that a leather jacket is keeping me dry
Mark :-)
Things are already looking fantastic guys. A light shower just makes everything look that much more sparkly, lush and exotic. I am so looking forward to seeing it all gain a higher beauty as the season progresses.
ReplyDeletePaul :)
Thanks Paul! Very optimistic for this year, it feels like we'll get a good summer.
DeleteLooks so gorgeous in the rain, I love your ferns.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janet! The shuttlecock fern has spread out very nicely.
DeleteI agree with everybody else: looking great! I love the way a wet garden looks too...
ReplyDeleteDidn't you get the memo? Blogs that I visit are not allowed to post photos of Gunnera -- I get too envious! ;)
Ahh but you have lots of other nice plants that grow really well in your garden Alan :)
DeleteAfter several days of planting weather, I (and my body) are enjoying a rainy day much less productively than yours. The koi pond looks fabulous, not to necessarily single it out in a post filled with fabulousness.
ReplyDeletePleasure to hear Ricki! Do enjoy the pause and rest period rainy days impose on you, you'll need it for another bout of busy gardening days coming to your area hopefully soon.
DeleteI love the way plants glow in the rain. Thanks for the beautiful photos. I had the same kind of weather today, and while I enjoyed looking outside at the plants, I didn't snap any pictures. The only productivity of my day was working on a few blog posts.
ReplyDeleteRain does make the garden glow doesn't it Evan? Was hoping to do some fence painting then but rain put a stop to that, fortunately some under cover chores were an option for the day.
DeleteWe had a dry morning and a very rainy afternoon here. My garden looks a lot like a rainforest at this time of year too.
ReplyDeleteSounds a perfect weather combo for healthy plant growth Alison!
DeleteSo happy to see the rainforest vibe, after the fire I thought there might be much less jungle...
ReplyDeleteI think the area will turn out to he more lush than before Loree :)
DeleteHello Mark and Gaz:
ReplyDeleteAlthough we always disliked gardening in the rain, and often it was necessary to keep up, largely because the tools became so messy to handle rather than a dislike of becoming wet. But, it is true, everything looks so very good with the dampness caused by a fine drizzle.
We are hugely impressed with your 'jungle'. So much in the way of texture and form creating pattern and interest at every turn. Such an effect is not readily achieved and we do recognize the thought and work which will have gone into the making.
Love rainy days Jane and Lance, but only if no gardening jobs were planned for the day that merits for a dry weather, or if staying indoors. So true though that gardening gets extra messy and much more of an effort if everything is wet, when even a simple compost becomes mud and smears all over the place. At least the plans looked glowing as a result of it :)
DeleteI love theway different light conditions changes everything, green looks wonderful on a dull or wet day.
ReplyDeleteTrue Christina! It was a rainy day but still reasonably bright and conducive to taking photos.
DeleteAh, lovely freshness! A bit of brightness after the rain makes the greens seem so vibrant; very impressive ferns but - and this is where I'm amazed - is that a perfect large hosta I can see in the garden? Looking so wholesome and uneaten by slugs, I'm wondering how you do it! Very, very nice.
ReplyDeleteTouch wood Caro but that variegated Hosta is looking untouched by slugs at the moment. May that continue as most years they are munched away!
DeleteThat's looking incredibly tropical! I love it! Sometimes the wet soggy days are the best to get things done that we otherwise put off.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Louis, there's always something to do :)
DeleteIt's looking incredible! I love virtually visiting your jungle! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter, and a pleasure!
DeleteThings are really moving along at a fast pace there and looking really nice. I bet you soon won't even know the fire happened last year.
ReplyDeleteCher Sunray Gardens
Thanks Cher! Hopefully that'll be the case :)
DeleteI think rain and fog make things look incredibly beautiful, and totally different from when it is sunny. Your garden looks so beautiful, even with the randomness in some parts
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa :)
DeleteLOVE the look around the pond! It rained the last two days here. I went for a walk this afternoon after the sun came out. The temp was quite hot. It felt like a sauna, and the weeds were growing before me. My semi-jungle has definitely tilted more toward the tropics, but the plants all look happy. I wish my jungle was as contained as yours!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! I like this type of boat because it can be moved easily and it makes a great journey. gardening jobs
