Competition: Win Gardening Tools and Composter



With Spring just around the corner, our latest competition has perfect timing. Argos are offering a fine selection of garden tools and composter to one lucky reader.

The tool selection is a 5 piece Spear and Jackson set, which includes 4 stainless steel tools, with traditional wooden handles and a pair of gloves. Spear and Jackson tools are made to last and should look good and keep your garden looking great for many years to come. 

Along side the tools is also a Rawlinson beehive composter, this stylish composter should look great in any garden, whether a traditional style or more contemporary, and with a treated natural timber finish should last a long time too!

  14. We have planted a few seeds, so hopefully will be able to grow some chillies and tomatoes in our greenhouse.
    Also, hoping this year to finally get an area beside a curved wall dug out, slabs laid along opposite border, replanted and stones put down to prevent weeds.
    The garden here was in a state of neglect when we moved in and we are slowly, but surely attempting to tackle another area each year.
    Great competition, so fingers crossed. Could do with some new tools and another composter wouldn't go a miss. :)

  23. The garden needs a face lift. Ideally the lawn needs re-turfing and our borders need refilling. Also need to plant some additional bambos for screening at the end of the garden. Lots to do ..

    My boyfriend and I have just bought our first house together! It is lovely but the garden has been neglected so we will be doing that up this Spring and hopefully filling it with lovely Spring flowers and vegetables!

A composting area would be good - if I had the time and materials I would build a wooden composter, so this prize would be a godsend and allow me to concentrate more on rotating my small veg patch for potatoes. Planting to commence soon, I hope, for french beans, tomatoes, salad veg, herbs and strawberries as a good starting point.

  33. I have a 20 x 12 foot' pop up swimming pool, lying unused in the shed.
    I'm going to turn it into an aquaponics system.
    This is a self substainging system, where the fish waste feeds the plants, and the plants feed the fish.

The geenhouse. has been used as more of shed since our mom passed away , its at the family home so we can all use it if it cleaned out and prepared, Me and my sister plan on getting it ready for spring so we can grow salad and veg, going to attempt more than tomatos this year , cucumber , kale , peppers and strawberries if all goes to plkan xx

  49. We have a really exciting year ahead having just moved into a new house with a large garden. It had been previously owned by some keen gardeners, but the garden was untended and overgrown for the last 5 years or so.
    So we are trying to clear all the dead plants away and uncover the 100s of bulbs which are springing up all over the garden.
    Once we know what we have, we can plan a whole new garden scheme.

  55. There are so many jobs to do in our garden I could just about put anything! Need to overhaul the veggie patch so we can get planting, lots of trees need a harsh hacking back. The whole garden is covered in weeds and we want to dig over a weedy area so we can turf. (It's a garden renovation to go with our house renovation!)

  59. Once the allotment is less waterlogged it needs to be totally cleared from what was left at the end of last season, the green manure sections dug in and planted up with potatoes firstly. Still too wet to do anything though :-(

  60. Have already had to replace fence panels which has taken time and they were where we were going to train wisteria so that's one of the next jobs. Before all the bad weather we bought a small green house to grow veg and flower seed so that needs establishing and a compost bin wd be great addition. Tweeted comp @egran2many

  74. As the kids and me had a fantastic time last year growing our own veg so this year were going bigger so that means taking up a large section of turf (will be stacking that up at the end of the garden for wildlife to hide) and turning the soil over a few times ready to plant this spring.

This year we are making some raised beds for veggies, i am planting another couple of fruit trees, moving some perennials as the border needs a good going over to remove the grass that has appeared and the brambles. Its very hard at moment due to so much rain, before my home was built in the early 50s there was a natural little stream that ran through the area and every winter it reappears through my back garden so its more of a swamp til may/june time. My greenhouse needs some work as the winds and cold have made it very brittle. so this year lots of things needing doing but i am so looking forward to getting out in the garden and watching nature take hold in the way she does with amazing flowers and veggies that spring to life from a tiny little seed.

  99. Turn the soil and remove growing weeds/dead matter from the borders ready for flower planting when I visit the garden centre to buy some. Remove growing weeds from the lawn (I do this manually each year). Buy in some compost which I use when planting out flowers I buy in. General tidy up everywhere so that the front and back garden are ship shape and ready for action.

  121. I am going to clear bottom of my garden where the previous owners had dumped builders rubbish such as rubble, bricks and old laminate flooring. Total area is 20 x 14ft. So I have a fun and busy spring, but once cleared I can start on making it into a patio to enjoy the summer on
