The Snow Returns

The winter weather continues, with the UK suffering the worst winter for many years.

Not much gardening can be done which is quite frustrating as we are very much outdoors people and love spending time in our garden, however we braved the subzero temperatures and took a few photos instead.

Knickers seems to enjoy the snow which is good as he has so much energy to burn off!

  1. The garden takes on a totally different view in the snow! I have been shaking the trachy and the bamboos, to save them bending over. The greenhouse has been wrapped in bubblewrap, survival blankets and fleece and now has 3 heaters going in there! I have bought in the BOP plants and they seem to appreciate this. I have a heat map plugged in with a baby TRex, but if I need that plus for another tube heater I will bring the TRex in.
I will blog about the garden and greenhouse so you can see whats going on!!

  2. Wow, that's a TON of snow. Seeing palm trees covered by snow is still an incongruous sight for me :-) Hang in there, this too shall pass.

  3. The red berries against the snow are so beautiful.
We never have a white Christmas here of course. I hope you guys enjoy it and the garden doesn't suffer too much from the cold.

  5. wow, The snow looks fantastic on the big leaves in your tropical jungle. I like plants with berries but obviously they are most at home in snow, advertising themselves to passing birds.

  6. Your wonderfully architectural planting looks amazing covered in snow. A reminder that leaf structure adds so much to the garden in any season. Makes me feel chilly though...

  7. I know what you mean, I hate not getting outside. Knickers seems to like it, our cat Purdee just wants to sit on top of the radiator. Take care in the holiday season and don't overdo it.

  8. Libby, we've done the same, shaken off alot of snow from the plants so they don't bend over as much, and thrown unused sleeping bags over the greenhouse which seem to have helped alot.

Gerhard and College Gardener, I bloody well hope so! :)

Missy, Hazel, and Plantaliscious, despite the inconvenience they do look lovely :)

Alistair, when it's all snowy outside you do get that 'cooped in the house' feeling. I don't blame Purdee for just wanting to sit on the radiator.

  11. Hi Winter Gardening :) The berries aren't edible but the branches laden with them is traditinally used as a Christmas decoration.
